Unauthorised Overdraft Charges Warning

Hello,

I'd like to warn other forum users about something I recently found out. I was accidentally overdrawn on my account last month and got a massive charge for it. I found out it was called an 'unauthorised overdraft' charge and that's why it was so ridiculously high! If you think you might need to use your overdraft some months - get approval from your bank first. The interest and charges is significantly lower than just overdrawing without the banks knowledge. They might charge you a set up fee but all in all, it should be cheaper if you do sometimes get overdrawn.

Hope this helps some people!

I know what you mean, I had

I know what you mean, I had a problem with my bank a few weeks ago after I had a few 'unauthorized' overdrafts on my account. The bank had written me a letter saying that I had to pay £155 worth of overdraft charges. Which had me shocked as that was such a high amount to pay. The best thing to do is to phone the bank and ask them to explain what payments came out of your bank account, this way you will get a clearer picture as to what exactly is going on

Overdrawn Account Charges

How did you know that it was an excessive fee? I have a overdraft privelage on my account. It's for $500. It came with my checking account. If you have an overdraft presented to your bank, they pay it. They charge a fee of $30 per item. They give you 30 days to bring the account o a positive balance.
