IVA CURRENTLY RUNNING

I have been in an IVA for 2 years now & myself & my partner have an 8 week old baby. I have contacted my IVA provider with regards to reducing my payment to them slightly to be able to provide for my child. They have now wrote back to me basically saying that my new expenditure seems excessive and that I should still carry on paying the amount I have been. Although we receive Child Maintenance this is only £18.80 per week and does not anywhere cover what we actually spend on our baby. To be honest this has really annoyed me in that they are basically saying I cannot contribute anything towards my child. We are only living in rented property but my partner is considering applying for a mortgage which would include extra money so that I can pay off my debts and then start a fresh which would mean more money available. Could you advise me what my options are as my IVA has only been running for 2 years but currently lasts for 5 years. Can I approach my IVA provider with regards to paying off my debts at this stage? I appreciate that they are my debts and that they have to be paid back but at times I think my IVA is totally unfair. I have several problems with ill health with my father which causes a great deal of stress and the problems that I keep having with my IVA provider only make things worse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Garry

Hello Gary

Sorry to hear about your situation Gary, the best thing to do it to contact your IVA provider again but by telephone and explain to them again your circumstances. They should re evaluate your expenditure, as there is one more mouth to feed etc. If your partner is successful in getting a mortgage and is able to pay your debts off in full, then this will not be a problem. The whole idea of an IVA is to pay your debts off at a rate you can afford and over a shorter period off time. Your creditors will be more than happy for the IVA to finish early if they are going to be getting all of their money back. Speak to your IVA provider about this for more information as different companies work differently. Hope this helps.
