What should I do?

Hi everyone, I'm very worried at the moment as I've just found out that we owe approx a thousand pounds to the bank - as this is classed as an unofficial overdraft we are still being charged an extortionate amount and this has now been passed to the arrears department. Can anyone help, I can't pay the thousand pounds in one go, but if I don't find away to get them to stop charging us, we will never be able to pay it off - what should I do? Thanks

Hello Sillycat

The best way to get out of the situation you are in is to move to another bank where you have no debt at all. Open a basic account with the new bank; change all of your standing orders and direct debits if you have them over. Then pay what you can afford every month into the overdraft to bring the debt down. You can ask the bank to stop charging you but this always possible but at least by paying what you can you are in control. Hope this helps.
