i am in debt and need help

hi there, i am currently in debt of around £15.000 due to the hire purchase of a car. i desperately need some help and advice as i can't afford pay the debt because of changed circumstances. i don't work and im currently receiving income support, which i was receiving when i first got the debt.

the thing is, i started out with a second hand car that cost £6.000, after a year i traded it in and got another car that cost £8.000, after about 8 months the payments went up, which we couldn't afford, so in order to get out of the higher payments, i traded the car in again and got another one. i done this four times over-all and because i kept traded in the cars to keep the monthly payments down, the debt just mounted up. before i knew it, i owed around £21.000. i gave the last car i had back to the company, and they took £6.000 of the debt leaving me with around $15.000 debt and no car. to tell the truth, i can't believe the car shop/loan company allowed me to get in so much debt when i am only on income support. i didn't even have a job. the problems with the re-payments started when my girlfriend had to quit her job due to our sons ill health (she used to pay the majority of the monthly payments) so leaving it impossible for us to keep up the payments.

Hello Sean

If you are unable to pay the HP every month, then you can hand the keys back into the garage. But unfortunately, when the garage sells the car, they may not get the full value of it, therefore leaving you with a bill AKA debt! If you give us a call, we can go through all of your details with you and find he best way for you to go and see how much you can actually afford! Hope this helps and speak to you soon
