General debt query

Hi everyone, I am seeking advice on behalf of a friend of mine, who finds himself suicidal through the stress and worry of debt. A friend of mine has run up a £100,000 debt of which approximately £65,000 is in the form of credit card debt and the remainingt £35,000 is by way of (unsecured ) bank loans. He has recently gone through a messy divorce in which his wife received the marital home. He now lives in a squalid studio flat,in a very undesirable area, and is suicidal. His only income is £47 p/w. Out of this he is currently (and has been for some time) paying £20 p/w to some of his various creditors. This is in the form of £1 to one,£2 to another etc etc. This leaves him periously short of money, and at tmes having to go without essential items, like food, heat, etc I think that he should recontact some of his creditors and tell them that given his current financial plight he can no longer afford to pay at the current rate. Intermittenly the creditors contact him,say every 2-3 months asking him if he can pay more. My main question is what would your advice be regarding paying nominal amounts per week and is there a cut off point where if he is receiving such a low income, and has no saleable assets, then, what happens? Many thanks in advance for any advice and help.
