CCJ

I signed up to share a house with 3 other students . I have a dispute with my Landlord. For 5 months of my 12 month tenancy there has been on going repair work. Not only that one of the bedrooms is 4m sq and is 2.5m sq under the legal size. This was not know at the beginning of the tenancy. I have asked for a rent reduction of 1/4 of the rent due to the disruption and undersized bedroom. He will not agree to this and has threatened to take us to court. If he does and we lose, if we pay the judgemnent in 30 days will the CCJ be registered? I need to know as I am hoping to study law and do not want my career to be affected. i would appreciate any advice Diane

Hello,

Usually these type of court cases are taken to a small claims court, CCJ's are awarded by a county court. If the case was lost and you were ordered to pay the debt, to get a CCJ awarded against you your landlord would then have to apply to a County Court. If this happened and you had a CCJ awarded against you, you would have a period of 14 days to clear the debt so that the CCJ could be taken off your credit files.
