can i make arrangement direct with loan company?

Hello, Between us myself and my partner have a lot of debt, however it is my loan payment that we are struggling with the most. I only owe £10,000, which i know compared to some isn't a lot and it is only a 1/4 of what we owe between us. However I also pay our rent, as most of husbands money goes on his debts and feeding us. i struggle to have any money left over, so petrol etc is a real difficulty. I have seen on other sites that you neeed to owe over £15000 to qualify for an IVA. Is it possible to make a similar arrangement direct with my loan company. i do feel that i never could afford this loan, but i actualy worked for the bank that gave it to me, and as i was a colleague they tweaked the figues for me, so that i got approved. i now realise that i should not have allowed this to happen, but it was a desperate time and i though this was our only option, i now know that it has just made things worse. My payment eah month should be £219, but realistically i can only afford £100. My paymeny was missed twice due to lack of fund, this is partly becaus ei left my job at the bank becaus eit was so stressful ( i worked there for 18 months and was signed of with severe stress reactive depression for 6 of these), i know work in a large retail store and although the pay is less, i am a much happier person. so despite this problem it was well worth it. anyway after all that waffle, the long and short of this is, can i canotact my bank directly and make an iva type arrangement? is this wise or should i have professional help? many thanks in advance for any help

Hello Florence84

The answer to your question is simply, yes you can contact your bank and make an arrangement with them. Not an IVA arrangement as this is a goverment arrangement you set up with all of your creditors not just the one. You are allowed to pay to your debts, what you can afford. So dont be worried if you think the amount your paying is alot less than the original payment due, as long as you are paying what you can afford then you are doing the right thing You mentioned about having other debts as well as this 10,000 loan. Why dont you give us a call at the Debt Advice Trust on 0800 954 6518, we could have look at all of your debts rather than just one and help find a solution to solve them all! It would be better for yourself and also to your creditors if you pay all your debts off at the same time rather than one at a time. Hope this helps
