Pensioners in Debt
I am aware of an elderly couple who have credit card debts that they are having trouble paying.
I would like to be able to help them in some way but do not have the money to pay off their debts.
Is there a way that I can contact the credit card companies - or get them to do this, so that the interest can be stopped on the cards? Alternatively, can we offer to pay them a reduced settlement fee to pay the debts off?
The couple own their own home and I would not want them to have to sell up to pay off these debts.
What is the best way to handle this without putting their property at risk?
I am unsure of the amount they owe, but would like to understand what can be done for them before discussing this with them in depth.
I do not want to raise their hopes of clearing / reducing these debts without getting my facts right first.
