Letter from Solicitors saying they are taking me to court

I had a credit card company and the maximum limit of £1500. I got into trouble and the balance was around £1500 and couldn't meet the monthly payments. The company jumped on me and started adding nearly £100 per month interest and charges and this escalted and the balance ended up £3300 last year! Even though I thought this was unfair I got a letter from their solicitor's about court, I contacted the company and agreed to pay £100 per month. For many months (8 or so) I was paying the £100 until this month I missed a payment. Almost imediately I got a letter saying they were taking me to court, looks pretty official, but there is no date to appear, they say I will recieve a court summons. In the first instance I think the charges were unfair! Having said that, I bit the bullet last year and agreed to pay, but missed one payment and now face court! Are the charges unfair? Should I contest? or if I go to court would I be ordered to pay? etc etc Can anyone offer advise????

Hello

Given the circumstances what I would recommend is that you keep making the monthly payments of 100 that you have been paying. The reason I suggest that is because if the solicitors do take it to court then what will happen is a court will see that you are making regular payments although you have missed one or two. If they agree that you are paying what you can afford and that you are trying to pay the debt off rather than hiding from the matter they may rule in your favour that you should continue paying that amount. With regards to the amount they are chasing unfortunately if payments haven't been made then charges and interest will be added each month these charges could be for Late / Missed payments, Over limit fee's, admin fee's, legal fee's. I hope this helps
