Fall or be pushed?

my husband and I are separated and he's told me this morning that he stopped paying his credit cards two months ago and that he is no longer able to pay back the ones he took out in my name (and are therefore legally my responsibility). My question is do I do what he's doing and simply stop paying the credit cards back, (his debt 250k mine about 30k) and wait for a company to start sending the nasty letters or do I file for bankruptcy and preempt it? When we separated (funnily enough over money) I ended up with nothing, I'm disabled, on no income and in rented accommodation, what's the worst they can do to me?

Hello daisylorne

After reading about your situation, i think the best thing you can do at the moment is to give us a call at the Debt Advice Trust. We can go through your details and find out what is the best way for you to repay your debts. If bankruptcy is the right way for you to go then we can point you in the right direction. We can also give you advice on bankruptcy. I wouldnt recommend not paying the debts, pay them what you can afford for now until we find the right solution. Hope this helps and talk to you soon

Thank you

Thank you for the advice, I've made an appointment with my solicitor and we shall go from there. at least it's nice for it to be in the open and not in denial.

Hello,

Have a chat with your solicitor and as we have said for any further information on the matter just give us a quick call.
Best of luck.

I managed to get all the paperwork late last night, glad I was sitting down with the calculator, the total is a smidgen over £50k, not that it makes any difference really, I can't afford either amount
